Welcome to Sweden and the small town of Nynäshamn. The southernmost outpost of the Stockholm archipelago. Nynäshamn’s beautiful and strategic location in the outer archipelago has always been of great importance. Both Stone Age people, who hunted here 10,000 years ago, and the Vikings, who lived here 1,000 years ago, valued this region, the outer archipelago and the rich supply of fish, birds and seals.
Today we are proud to offer some of the best Sweden has to offer - the proximity to Stockholm, a beautiful countryside, a vibrant city centre, several thousand outstanding islands, unique flavours and memorable experiences on both land and sea.
The modern history of Nynäshamn begins with the construction of the railway from Stockholm in the early 1900s, and today it takes just 60 minutes to get here. Alongside the industrial development that took place a hundred years ago, the population increased, as did the importance of the port. Nynäshamn’s location was significant for both commerce and outdoor activities, and it also became known for its summer homes, seaside hotels, spas and sailing centres. In the 1912 Olympic Games, the sailing competitions were held in what is still one of Sweden’s best sailing waters, next to a beautiful promenade and the world’s longest outdoor gym.
Nynäshamn today offers the genuinely Swedish and more besides. Local beer, food from the region and a unique cultural history with rune stones, churches from the 1100s, Sweden’s oldest lighthouse and even military installations from the Cold War era.
We hope Nynäshamn can offer you many surprises and nice experiences.
